Featured Basin: Gunnison

Black Canyon Sunrise.JPG

The Gunnison Basin has something for everyone.  After a trophy-sized trout?  Check out the Taylor River tailwaters for some of the state's heftiest (and not-easily-obliging) trout.  Looking for a great afternoon float trip?  Float the Gunnison River through the beautiful valley above Gunnison.  Prefer smaller wild trout streams?  Cochetopa Creek may be right up your alley.  The Black Canyon of the Gunnison offers tremendous fishing in an incomparable setting, for those in good enough shape and determined enough to make the hike in - and back out.  A guided float trip through the downstream Gunnison Gorge reach is a great alternative for those without legs of steel, but who still want to experience this unique fishery.  And this is all before even mentinoing the beautiful Lake Fork, or the state's most popular fishing reservoir - Blue Mesa - a hotbed for lake trout and kokanee.

Close enough to the Front Range to make a great destination - far enough to keep the crowds reasonable - and with a tremendous diversity of opportunities.  That's the Gunnison Basin.  To learn more about any of these specific waters, visit the Colorado Fishing Network (click here).  And if you fish the area, please give your support to the businesses listed below who have contributed to CTU and helped make our conservation work possible.
