Objectives of the Conservation Summit
Oct: 6-8 - Keystone
(For advertising and exhibit options, please contact Paul Drey at drey.ohc@gmail.com)
The overarching goal of this initial Conservation Summit is to maintain healthy wildlife populations and habitat into the year 2050.
To accomplish this ambitious, yet necessary result, Summit participants must:
- Define the current status of wildlife habitat in Colorado, with an emphasis on impacts to wildlife species from urban growth, water use, resource development and climate change.
- Project the long-term trends to wildlife habitat in Colorado, along with the expected impacts to wildlife and habitat from these sources.
- Determine the desired future condition (our vision) for wildlife and habitat in Colorado through 2050 with a focus on the interrelated topics of federal lands, private lands, water, youth access and climate change.
- Recommend both short-term and long-term actions that will lead to achievement of the desired future conditions for wildlife and habitat which are supported by a consensus of Summit participants.
- Establish a framework and process for further development of recommendations to serve as a catalyst for implementation of the agreed-upon actions and to ensure the goals of the Conservation Summit are achieved.
- Summarize and distribute the results of the Conservation Summit to a broad cross-section of the public with the goal of informing Coloradans about the threats to our wildlife species and habitat and the actions needed to sustain or wildlife heritage and traditions.
